FAMILY TRIBUTE
Gloria Irene (Iezzi) Hunt was born on October 7, 1927 to Mark and Mabel Iezzi. She was the oldest of three daughters. Gloria graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in 1945. After graduation, she attended Nursing School at Harper Hospital. During World War II, she volunteered as a Civil Defense Runner.
Gloria married her high school sweetheart, Tom Hunt, on April 19, 1947. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before Tom's death in 2017. Gloria is survived by her three children, Tom (Kathy), Larry, and Susan (Al) La Croix as well as 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Gloria was passionate about the arts. She grew up learning about opera from her father, who would tell her the stories behind the music. Her love for opera led her to become active in the Detroit Grand Opera Association, which was responsible for bringing the Metropolitan Opera to Detroit. She was also involved with Overture to Opera, bringing opera to Detroit Area Schools. Overture to Opera was the precursor to Michigan Opera Theatre, the state’s only opera company.
Gloria was a talented artist, specializing in seascape paintings. Her technique generated a number of commissions and her paintings are prized by her family. She was also active in the Wyandotte Acanthus Art Society and was one of the first artists to exhibit in the Wyandotte Art Fair in the 1960s.
Gloria’s creativity extended to the kitchen. She loved to cook for her family. She perfected many Italian dishes, including Osso Bucco, a family favorite.
