Oscar Lopez, Sr. Age 92 of Brownstown Township.
Beloved husband of the late Beverly Ann Lopez. Loving father of Olga (David) Montie, Olivia (the late Raymond) Napiantek, Isabel (Steve) Matus, Norma (Richard) Sherrill, Oscar (Rhonda) Lopez, Jr., Alamar (Ray Dziedziak) Lopez, Katherine (Kenneth) McMullen, Gary (Kim) Lopez, Mona (Phil) Bentley Willis, Donna Hamilton, Donald (Angel) Maddox, the late Oscar Luis Lopez, the late Renee Lopez, the late Raymundo Lopez, Sr., the late Hazel Maddox and the late Frank Bentley. Also survived by 38 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
Family Tribute
Felix and Josefa Lopez welcomed their son Oscar Lopez to their family on February 25, 1927. He was the youngest of nine children and is the last to proceed his parents and siblings in death. He was married to the late Beverly Ann Lopez, (deceased) Maria Olga Salinas Lopez and previously widowed to Clara Vera Lopez. Oscar was the father of 16 children- Olga Montie, Olivia Napiantek, Norma Sherrill, Isabel Matus, Oscar Lopez, Alamar Lopez, Katherine Lopez McMullen, Gary Lopez, Donna Hamilton, Mona Bentley Willis, Donnie Maddox, Deceased Children- Oscar Luis Lopez, Renee Geraldo Lopez, Raymundo Lopez Sr, Hazel Bentley Maddox, Frank Bentley. He has 38 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. He loved to be surrounded by his family, to him that was everything. He was a jokester and he loved to make people laugh. He was always a happy man and it showed.
Oscar was a hardworking man that had trades in many fields. As a young man he worked as a Bell Boy at the Plaza Hotel in Laredo, he was a Field worker in Traverse City, a Hydraulic Mechanic in Detroit and later on retired with General Motors.
Oscar loved sports, baseball was his all-time favorite, not only did he enjoy watching it, it was the one sport he truly loved to play. In 1974, Oscar along with his brothers, nephews and friends started their own baseball team known to all as Ernie’s Eagles and went on to be the first-place champions in the Ecorse Latin America Baseball League. He also loved to cook, enjoyed boxing, singing and dancing with family at any get together. He was adventurous- he loved driving on long trips and enjoyed spending time in Texas with his family and vacationing in Florida. Oscar lived a long and very eventful life. His presence truly has affected so many people in positive ways, and his legacy will live on forever. We love you Oscar Lopez, you will always be “The Best in the West” in every way possible.
