Obituary of James E. Hicks
May 20, 1928 – December 31, 2018
James E. Hicks. Age 90 of Ecorse.
Beloved husband of the late Ruth Hicks. Loving father of Debbie (Ron) Patt, Cheryl Hicks and Sheila (Marty) McGinnis. Dearest grandfather of Amanda (Omar) Berrocal, Joseph (Alison) Patt, Meghan McGinnis, Morgan McGinnis and Tyler McGinnis. Also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

James Eugene Hicks went to heaven on December 31, 2018, to join his wife Ruth Imogene James, who left this world April 1, 2004.
He was known by many names – Gene, Jimmy, Papaw, Pops – but all who knew him always mentioned his big smile. He was genuinely the kindest and nicest man around, and saw the best in everyone. He was born at home in Barbourville (Swan Pond) Kentucky on May 20, 1928 to Martha Elizabeth Potter and James Homer Hicks.
Jimmy joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 and saw battle during the Korean War aboard the USS Mason. He married Ruth in 1952 and had their first daughter two years later, just after he left the Navy. They moved to the Detroit area, bought a house and had two more daughters. Both Ruth and Jimmy lived in that same house until they passed.
