FAMILY TRIBUTE
Joseph and Irene Maxfield welcomed their son Paul Frazer Maxfield on December 12, 1939. Paul grew up in Marion, Kentucky. He graduated from Crittenden County High School in 1958. Following High School, Paul moved to Southeast Michigan. He began working for Great Lakes Steel in 1959 as a payroll clerk. While working full time, Paul earned his Business Degree from Wayne State University. Paul’s career was put on hold in 1962 when he was drafted into the military. He served the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. After completing basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Paul was transferred to Fort Bliss, Texas. Paul remembered those days he spent in the Army for the rest of his life. Often he would share stories of crossing the border into Juarez, Mexico where he enjoyed the people and food.
Paul returned to work at Great Lakes Steel. During this time, he also enrolled at Wayne State University again to obtain a Bachelor’s of Mortuary Science. He retired from Great Lakes Steel in 1994 after 35 years. Upon retirement, Paul decided to pursue a Barbering License. He eventually became co-owner and barber of Sheer Pleasure in Trenton, Michigan. For 15 years, Paul worked in his barber shop until his health started to decline in 2015.
Paul enjoyed fishing, watching sporting events, including the Kentucky Derby, studying history and helping others. He also was a member of the V.F.W. Paul was extremely generous to family, friends and strangers in need. He vehemently supported St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Charity.
As we remember the life of Paul Maxfield, let us focus on his generosity, his love of family and country. He left behind a beloved sister Darlene and her husband Greg, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends. You are gone but not forgotten.
