2024 Remembrance Tribute to Ruth J Raymond Nov 27, 2024
By Diana Romain Palmer (blood Niece) and John E Palmer nephew by Marriage.
Ruth was always a happy, loving person. When growing up in Wyandotte,Mi, she enjoyed spending time with her family, including 4 other siblings. She recalled stories of riding in the canoes , homemade by brother Robert, in the creek behind their house. Her always close-knit family was exemplified by stories such as when Ruth was about to make her First Holy Communion, during the tight times of the the Depression, her parents did not have the money for a new dress for her. So her older sister Jean, who was working at the time, gifted a new beautiful Communion dress to Ruth. These kinds of family ties persisted throughout their family life.
After her schooling, Ruth worked for many years, as a Medical Admin at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn. She was well liked, highly respected as a helpful and uplifting teammate. After retiring from Oakwood, she felt the need to help others, especially babies and Moms. So Ruth began her second career as a volunteer coach and informal counselor for Pregnant Moms at the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Lincoln Park. Again, she was well respected for her attitude of giving to others. She probably didn't know all the babies and Moms she helped, until now that she's in Heaven.
Ruth had a lot of good virtues, wonderful aunt to all, Mother figure to younger siblings , and several nieces and nephews after their Mothers passed.
Always smiling and happy. And sharing a kind word.
She had a lot of suffering that she did not complain about, especially in the last 5 years of her life.
Favorite TV was EWTN , was a very good catholic. Loved going to Mass. Her biggest motivation to pick her first apartment at Henry Ford Village was its proximity next door to the Chapel.
She was very generous : she donated to most charitable causes that came and asked. More junk mail from an ever increasing list of “charitable causes” than anyone we know! She always gave to people in need.
We always said the Rosary together when we visited Ruth. She had always said the daily Rosary with her brother Robert before his passing. We prayed it with her by phone when we couldn't visit in person.
Per Angela Hospice, Nurses/spiritual/social workers, Ruth was nearly always smiling, loved to read out loud and had an affinity for music, especially classical. She was a joy to be around.
With love, and wishing Ruth the peace of Jesus ,
Diana and John Palmer,
