Family Tribute ~

Margaret was born in 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from St. Theresa High School and Marygrove College, both in Detroit. During her college years she met Bob McGrath, who was attending neighboring University of Detroit. They married in 1950 and remained married for 69 years, until Bob’s death in 2020.

After graduation from Marygrove, Margaret worked in the advertising department at Business News Publishing Company.  She remained there until she and Bob started a family.

Margaret was active during her children’s school years, attending every single football, basketball, and baseball games, track meets, school plays, choral and musical programs. She also served on the School Boards of Wyandotte Catholic Consolidated Grade School and Gabriel Richard High School. She was on the formation committee of the first Parish Council at St. Patrick’s Church and served as Education Co-Chairman on the Council.

She served as a volunteer with the Wyandotte General Hospital Auxiliary for 50 years. At her retirement, she was the longest still-active volunteer for the Auxiliary, receiving a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Wyandotte for her dedicated service.

Over the years she also belonged to the Downriver Genealogical Society, Wyandotte Historical Society, Downriver Irish-American Club, and the Downriver League of Catholic Women. Besides her love of reading and genealogy, her love of travel took her and Bob on many exciting trips throughout the Continental US, Hawaii, Canada and Europe.

She always said that the best thing she did was have her children that she loved with all her heart.
