Obituary of Kathleen Juliana Gorsky

Family Tribute

Kathleen, age 74, passed away on February 24, 2024 at a nursing facility in Riverview, Michigan. She was born to Clara and Charles Gorsky in August of 1949. She began her young life living in the upper apartment of the 2nd St. house, then moved to the Lincoln Park, Michigan address and then returned to the 2nd St. home in Wyandotte, Michigan when purchased by her father when her grandfather passed away. He was the original owner, and it was passed down in the family for many years.

She attended St. Elizabeth’s grade school and St. Patrick’s High School. She graduated from Siena Heights College with a bachelor’s degree in English and Education. She went on to teach grade school at St. Ann’s in West Palm Beach Florida before returning to Siena Heights College for her master’s degree in English. Then she returned to Florida to continue teaching at St. Ann’s. When a position became available, she taught at Mount Carmel High School in Wyandotte, Michigan. Again, she returned to the 2nd St. home and lived with her parents. Kathy lived there until her health did not allow her to be alone.

She was very proud of her Hungarian and Polish heritage but celebrated in her Irish church. She always had to sing ”All Praise to St. Patrick" on St. Patrick’s Day. Kathy had a very strong belief in her God, her Catholic Faith and educating young people. She taught religious education in the classroom and at St. Patrick’s for many years. She volunteered at Wyandotte Hospital and tutored many students privately. She was hilariously firm on correcting bad grammar. We always heard the phrase “you don’t end a sentence with a preposition.” She had beautiful handwriting and our mother’s hands. Kathy had many health obstacles in her life but kept on going. She was loved by many, and you could not go anywhere with her without someone knowing her and others saying, “Hello Miss Gorsky.” She was in charge of many student activities. She planned many gatherings with family and friends and loved fiercely. When she could no longer attend Mass, she watched it on TV.

Kathy loved her costume jewelry, the more bling, the better. And she always shared it with others.

She fell in love with sunflowers while visiting Kansas where her sister Celeste and family live. It is the Sunflower State. She always signed her cards to her niece and nephews Aunt Sunflower.

She is survived by two sisters. Claire Ann Proctor (Reid), Celeste Trepinski (Robert), one niece, Stephanie Hibbert (James), great niece and great nephew Lucy and Noah, and 2 nephews Christopher Trepinski and Anthony Trepinski. Also surviving are many loving cousins and friends. With Kathy, Love always found a way. Donations in her honor can be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital or St Patrick’s Church of St. Vincent Pallotti Parish.
