~ Family Tribute ~
Elizabeth had a dog named Mickey when she was younger and would always take care of her mother’s dog, Brucie. She loved our cats Neo and Bubba. She was Neo’s “person”. She was the only person he would go to sit on her lap.
Going to church was a very important part of her life. She wanted all of her children to know and learn about God. Volunteering for the Red Cross was also a very important part of her life.
She always loved drinking her wine just before dinner. Mom loved bowling and playing Bunco with her friends. She also loved reading novels, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, and crocheting. Most of all, Dad, her children, and her grandchildren were her life.
Bill remembers when he was 12 years old and was told by a doctor that he would not be able to go into the draft to fight in any war. Our mom was very happy. One time when we were young, Carolyn and one of our cousins drifted out toward the middle of Hubbard Lake on an innertube and here comes our mom and our aunt in a rowboat to save them. She taught all her children how to swim.
When Elizabeth was staying at the nursing home near the end of her life, the nurses said she liked to sit by the window by herself and tell stories out loud just like she was reading a book. When we would ask for something and she said no, it wasn’t to be mean. She always had a good reason. Of course, at the time we didn’t understand because we were young, but now we do. She was always there ready to help whenever you needed her.
