Obituary of Frances F. Cheney
January 16, 1947 – November 15, 2023
Francis Fay (Cote) Cheney. Age 76 of Lincoln Park.
Francis passed away in her home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. It was a remarkably warm and beautifully sunny day. A lone American Robin singing outside her window heralded her arrival to heaven. She was 76.
Fran was born in Detroit. After 25+ years as a banker, she retired to a well-loved life spent with her family and friends. Fran enjoyed baking, cooking and entertaining. She possessed a modest legion of table linens to suit all seasons, holidays, and occasions. Attending Dinner Club with longtime friends and testing new flavors at family Recipe Club gifted her many warm, shared memories. Her family will miss her quick wit, generous heart, and blueberry kuchens.
Beloved mother of Joel (Sarah) and Scott (Jill). Adored Grammy Fran of Amelia and Eliot–the lights of her life–and grandcats Mitts and Pigeon. She is also survived by her dear brother Edward (Shelly) Cote, and loving sister-in-law Bethany Cote. Cherished Aunt Fran to Tim, Jim, John, Barbara, Janet, Sue, Elizabeth, Anna, Paul, Grace and Meredith. She was welcomed into heaven by her sister Jacqueline Andrews, brothers Paul and Robert Cote, niece Judy, and grandcat Legend.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Grammy Fran’s life on Sunday, November 26 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Molnar-Nixon Funeral Home, 2544 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte, MI, 48192. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Molnar-Nixon with cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Fran requested donations to our neighbors in need of nourishment be made in her honor to local food banks Gleaners Community Food Bank or Forgotten Harvest; or to The Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit so that no child is forgotten this Christmas.
