Obituary of Francis Thomas Matt
April 10, 1938 - July 17, 2023
Francis Thomas Matt. Age 85 of Detroit.
Beloved father of Thomas (Sandy) Matt, James (Amy) Matt, Karen Marie (Richard Sr.) Brois, George (Yolanda) Matt and William (Michelle) Matt. Loving grandfather of Ashley (Matthew), Lauren, Andrew, Alexander, Emily (Evan), Jason (Erin), Stephanie (Mark), Richard Jr.,William, Jessica, Nicholas, Avery and Owen. Great grandfather of Harper, Brecken, Ian, Dexter, Anna Grace, Ashling, Margaret Rose, Shaun and the late Killian. Dearest brother of Donald Eugene (Betty) Matt, Pamela (The late Lloyd) Geiger, Louis (Nora) Matt and Sharon (Bill) Susick. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Donald and Louise Matt, siblings; Raymond Matt, Jeanette Matt, Thomas Matt, Valentine (Peggy) Matt and Saline (David) Gooding. Also preceded in death by close friend and mother of his children Margaret Ann Nowland.
Memorial contributions are appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Cremation will take place at The On-Site Crematory, located within Molnar Funeral Homes - Brownstown Chapel.
~Family Tribute~
Francis was a structural steel designer for Douglas Steel Fabricating Corporation in Lansing, MI and retired from DeMaria Building Company in Novi, MI. He also served in the Michigan Air National Guard from 1954-1956.
Francis formerly resided and raised his children in Lansing Michigan. He then moved to Au Gres, MI for a short period before settling in Detroit, MI for the past 17 years.
Francis was very active in his community. He coached baseball and basketball, including a few that went onto playing in the NBA. Even more recently he was the point person in his neighborhood, assisting neighbors with errands and taking children to practice. His will to provide never stopped.
Francis will be remembered for the work he did in his career, the passion for helping others and the love he had for his family.
