Obituary of Henry 'Hank' Michaelis
January 4, 1951 - June 23, 2023
Henry "Hank" Michaelis
Henry Michaelis of Allen Park, Mi. passed away June 23, 2023 after his latest battle with cancer. Hank was born January 4, 1951 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Helen (Pente) and Russell R. Michaelis Sr., the 7th of 8 children.
Henry proudly served his country from 1971-1972 in the U.S. Army that included a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Henry worked at Great Lakes and US Steel for 44 years, retiring as a Roller at the 80" mill in River Rouge, Mi.
Hank was an outstanding athlete, excelling in baseball and hockey and followed Michigan based professional and collegiate sport teams. He could even be found cheering for his grand-nephews at baseball games and track meets. He was a pretty good armchair coach, too, as he was a running commentary as he watched games on TV.
Henry is survived by his sisters Lana (William) Yekin, Margaret (Michael) Gyolai, Marilyn (Robert) Irvine and his brother Harold (Betty) Michaelis, numerous nieces and nephews, and grand nephews who love him dearly.
Hank lit up a room when he walked through the door. He always had a clever quip and warming comment to anyone he approached. He cared about all those around him always putting his woes and himself out of the picture as he interacted with anyone. He had a habit of dropping dollar bills as he walked around the house and the grand-nephews reminded him of that recently to which he responded with a big smile. He will be missed but not forgotten and always in the hearts of his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Molnar Funeral Home on West Road in Brownstown, Michigan on Wednesday, July 5 from 2-8 pm. There will be a service on Thursday, July 6, at 11:00 am. Followed by a celebration luncheon.
