Family Tribute

Marty grew up in Lincoln Park, MI.  Following high school, Marty served his country in the United States Army. After two years in the Army, Marty returned home and began his career at Chrysler.  Marty dedicated the next 30 years to his career.  He retired in November 1996 and earned himself perfect attendance awards.

Marty believed if you wanted something you had to work for it.  His work ethic continued into retirement.  He found a plot of land in Northern Michigan that he fell in love with.  Marty worked almost everyday building his paradise to fit his vision.  There was never a day that his list of projects was complete.  Marty’s home would soon become a place his family visited and enjoyed spending their weekends at.

Marty enjoyed yard work, maintaining and improving his home, both inside and outside.  Marty was a proud American.  His love for the American flag, anything made in the U.S.A. and the colors red, white and blue, could be seen in many places in his home and around his property, including the scenic trails he created.

Marty enjoyed nature and wildlife.  The birds near Marty’s home never missed a meal.  When Marty was not outside, he enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles, western movies and a good game of Yahtzee.  Marty could occasionally be found at a penny slot machine at the casino, attending a Detroit Red Wings or Detroit Tigers game or shopping garage sales.  All of these things were best accompanied by Elvis Presley music playing in the background while wearing a flannel shirt.

While there were so many things Marty loved, nothing could match the love he had for his family.  When the grandchildren were around, Marty became a child at heart and could often be found taking them fishing or challenging them to a game of four-square in the driveway.  Marty often hosted holidays and weekends at his home where he served his “famous” BBQ spare ribs and lemon poppy seed bread.  He was known as the fun uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Marty was a simple man, but had so much love to give and could teach you how to do anything.  Marty was full of life with an unforgettable smile and laugh. He was the root of so much happiness for any body that knew him.  Anywhere that Marty was, felt like home.  His family will miss the vacations, weekends up north, Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions, game nights around the table, among many other things.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
