Family Tribute
Dad served in the army from January 1946 to July 1947. The greater portion of his time-based in San Francisco.  He enjoyed seeing another part of the world since he was from the small hometown of Kingston in West Virginia.

He could remember jokes and tell them better than anybody without missing a punchline even though he was 95 years old.  My children get a chuckle today from jokes he told them in their younger years.  I'll hear them say, remember when grandpa said "this"...

He loved to travel, especially to National Parks.  Traveling for many years with his wife, Joyce, and children.  It was important to him to take us kids on vacation to create family memories and enjoy the beauty that was created.  He continued to travel in retirement building on his rock collection from each location.  He painted the name on each and proudly and fondly displayed them in his front flower garden.  Before Joyce passed he even ventured out of the country to Mexico.  Years later after mom passed away and he found love once again with an old high school sweetheart, Patsy, he enjoyed traveling with her and continued his rock collection.

He loved fishing and was able to enjoy it more in Florida.  He loved surf fishing the best and some of his grandchildren have fond memories of surf fishing with him.  He had to give up that favorite pastime as he aged because the waves could be fierce.

He worked at Great Lakes Steel in Ecorse, Michigan for 31 years as a pipefitter retiring at the young age of 53.  Shortly after that, he fled to Florida.  He always said he never regretted retiring early and moving to Florida.  Towards the last years of his job, he told his buddies at work that he was NEVER going to be cold again because he was moving to Florida.  To his last day, he still loved Florida.
