Family Tribute
Geraldine Chavis, 87, peacefully passed away on March 13th. She was born July 7th, 1935 in Lumberton, North Carolina. She always enjoyed going to Lumberton to see her family and had a lot of love for the home she came from. Geraldine was very prideful in her career at Southgate School District as a lunch and bus aid. She enjoyed this work so much she was always reluctant to retire, and worked well into her 70s.
Geraldine was the beloved wife and best friend of her one and only love of 60 years, the late Lenwood (Pete) Chavis of Fairmont, NC. She was the devoted mother to Angie Dodson - late husband Gene Dodson, Michelle McMahan - husband Thomas McMahan, and Cathy Wood - partner Dave Jones. Doting Grandmother of Jennifer Drouillard - husband Michael Drouillard, Crystal McMahan - partner Cody Mench, Sean Dodson, and Tiffany Belsley - husband Josh Belsley. Geraldine was blessed with 9 great-grandchildren; MacKenzie McMahan, Brandon McMahan, Miranda Sanford, Katelynn Drouillard, the late Seth McMahan, Cierra McMahan, Emma Drouillard, Aria Belsley, and Austin Drouillard, always celebrating their many accomplishments.
Geraldine is survived by her brother Horace Hunt and her sisters Dorothy Flowe and Lillian Hardin. She will join in death her husband, her parents Quinnie and Cathleen Hunt, and her sister Clementine Caulder.
Geraldine was a woman of faith, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and taking trips with her church. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she has entered heaven and was greeted by those she loved and those who loved her.
In honor of Geraldine’s lifelong work at Southgate School District, we are asking that you donate to a student’s lunch account to reduce the payment amount for some families.
