Family Tribute
Eugene Russell Glavin Jr, also known as Russ, was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on May 5th, 1951. He tragically passed away in an automobile accident on November 13, 2022. Russ was the second of seven children born to Eugene and Rosemary Glavin of Southgate, Michigan.
As a child, Russ had a passion for baseball, often playing for countless hours with neighborhood kids. He cherished his childhood friends and remained close to many of them throughout his life. Russ, who gained the nickname “Goose”, graduated from Southgate Schafer High School in 1969. He then continued on to earn his associates degree in law enforcement from Wayne County Community College.
In 1973, Russ wed Rosalyn Graves. They had two daughters, Tressa Priehs and Jessica Hallford. Russ dedicated his life to his girls. He coached countless little league softball teams, taught his girls the game of golf and instilled in them both hardwork and dedication. Russ was his girls’ number one fan, spending countless hours in gymnasium bleachers and ball field dugouts coaching and supporting them.
As an adult, Russ enjoyed playing softball, golf, bowling and riding his Harley. He also had a hobby of wood working. Russ loved his dogs, Zack and Kelly. He was a devoted son, brother and friend. Russ served as the Junior Varsity Softball Coach at Grosse Ile High School and was a high school athletic umpire and referee.
Russ’ pride and joy were his grandkids. They came fast and furious, 5 grandkids in just 4 years. His grandkids include Aubriana (11), Camden(11), Gibson(9) Priehs and Benton(10) and Corbin(7) Hallford. He was lovingly known as “Papa G”, the most caring, giving and patient grandfather. He never once told a grandkid “No”. Papa G, along with Gammy, never missed a game, match, recital or school event.
We are so blessed to have had him as a dad, brother, uncle, lifelong friend and Papa G in our lives. Words cannot explain the holes that have been left in our hearts by his sudden and tragic death. We take solace knowing he is now pain free in Heaven with his beloved puppies Kelly and Zack. We will forever cherish our time with and great memories of Russ “Papa G” Glavin.
