Obituary of Robert Wayne Jett
June 19, 1926 - November 25, 2021
Robert Wayne Jett lived for 95 years. He was born on June 19, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Alfred and Gertrude Jett. He was the last to survive from his family of two half-sisters, seven brothers, and a sister.
Robert (Bob) was a self-made man with ambitions from the get-go. At 18 years of age, he joined the Navy and was assigned to duty on the Navy Ship USS Boise which saw action in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His strong guideposts in his life we’re developed and strengthened during his service – those being: Duty. Honor. Country. These are words that Robert employed and exhibited in his daily life and actions as a dedicated family provider and good man of God.
On August 7, 1948 he married his faithful and loving companion, Gladys M. Hardegger of Wyandotte, MI. Driven by his ambitions, he was fortunate to have a secure long career culminating in the role of metallurgist at Ford Motor Company Rouge Steel in Dearborn, MI. He was a dedicated employee that provided a good living for his wife and family of five children. The family enjoyed a good home life and cherished the many adventurous vacations up north at Higgins Lake summer after summer. Robert loved boating and going fishing.
After the work years, he happily retired to Florida with his life partner and together they enjoyed traveling to dozens of countries around the world. It was a strong partnership and marriage that continued for 73 years! His greatest joys in life were his children Cheryl, Robert, Michael, Timothy, and Peter. His Grandchildren were his pride and joy, twin grandsons, Christopher and Patrich Jett; Steven Soloway and Nicole Soloway Wagar; Nicholas Jett; Peter Jett Jr and Matthew Jett. He loved being a Great Grandfather to Mason Jett and Connor Jett and Philomena Soloway. From the large family he came from, he had numerous nieces and nephews who kept in close contact over the years, celebrating many occasions.
He will be missed by all and will eternally remain in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Jett, of Tucson, Arizona; daughter Cheryl Soloway, of Tucson, AZ; sons Robert (Mary Linda) of Sacramento, CA; Michael (Debra) of Brighton, MI; Timothy (Meng Ying) of Tucson, AZ.; Peter (Cynthia) of Rockwood, MI; Granddaughter, Nicole (Zach) Soloway Wagar of Dearborn Heights, MI; Grandsons, Christopher Jett, of Brighton, MI; Patrich (Kristyne Cole) Jett, of Ann Arbor, MI; Steven (Kim Largey) Soloway, of Biddeford, ME; Nicholas Jett, of Brooklyn, NY; Peter Jett Jr (Angie Dallo) of Rochester Hills, MI; Matthew Jett, of Kalamazoo, MI; Great-Grandsons, Mason and Connor Jett, of Ann Arbor, MI; and Great-Granddaughter, Philomena Soloway, of Biddeford, ME.
