Obituary of Kathryn A. Manning

December 18, 1940 - October 30, 2017

Kathryn A. Manning. Age 76 of Harrison Township, formerly of Wyandotte.

Dear sister of Patrick J. (Judith B.) Manning, Joan M. (Bernard A.) Gougeon, and Judith M. Manning. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, James and Marie Manning, and sister Mary Louise Manning.

FAMILY TRIBUTE

Kathryn (Kay) Manning entered this world December 18, 1940 to Jim and Marie Manning.  She joined her brother Pat and sister Joan in a loving home on Jobin St in what is now Southgate, MI. 

Kay started school at Heintzen located in Southgate where she stayed until her family moved to Wyandotte and she started attending St. Patrick’s. She graduated in 1958.

Kay went to work at Kramer Trucking company until 1965 when she left to go to work at Grosse Ile Naval station to work for the Department of Defense in the accounting department.  She transferred to Selfridge AFB when the naval station closed, working in the accounting department and warehouse facility.  She retired in 1995 after 30 yrs.

Our parents knew what they were doing when they made Kay guardian of her little sister Mary which she did with great passion until Mary’s death in 1996.

Kay did a lot of traveling over the years to most of the 50 states often traveling with her sister Judy.  She traveled to Alaska twice and once to Ireland. A few memorable trips with her sisters and brother, and their spouses, found her traveling through Canada and the states. Visiting with her immediate family and all of her nieces and nephews were among her favorite and treasured memories. Lots of laughter guaranteed.

Kay enjoyed golfing to the point where she was on two different leagues. Watching football, baseball and, of course, golf was also a favored pastime.

Kay and her sister Joan shared a love of bird watching and would often plan trips around the state of Michigan chasing the loon population.

Although we only got together a few times a year I think I can speak for the rest of my family when I say we will miss her smiling face, her laughter, her generosity and her willingness to do almost anything for anybody. I will miss my traveling buddy and all of the trips we took together, starting with the first crazy trip to Chicago on a whim to the last trip we took to California, via Utah where we visited my bff, to attend a bar mitzvah.  She was always up for an adventure.  I truly hoped we could do so much more.
