Obituary of Mary C. Kearney
November 6,1921 – January 5, 2021
Mary “Maureen” Kearney. Age 99 of Wyandotte.
Beloved wife of the late Patrick Kearney. Loving mother of Michael (Judie) Kearney, Timothy (Sheila) Kearney, Patrick (Lynn) Kearney, Eileen (Tom) Walsh, Kathleen (Darryl) McCartney. Dearest grandmother of Danny (Megan), Amy (Jeremy), Katey (Brian), Rachel, Patrick (Hannah), Mary Francis, Shannon (Dan), Sean (Jessica), Francis (Jared), Timothy, Maureen (Jason), Thomas (Kieran), Conor, Ellen, Liam and Aidan. Great grandmother of Asa, Barrett, Jenna, Ava, Madison, Clare, Joey, Trevor, Donovan, Grace, Nathan, Matthew, Caitlin, Owen and Coralyn.
Family Tribute
Mary “Maureen”, immigrated from Co. Kerry, Ireland in 1949. She arrived in Wyandotte, MI to marry her fiancée Patrick Kearney. They wed on Thanksgiving, Nov 24th, at St. Patrick’s parish. Maureen, a dedicated wife, and mother, raised their 5 children in the community and remained dedicated to the city her entire life.
Maureen became an American Citizen in 2004. A day that brought her great joy and pride. When asked why she came to America she said “I left my home, my family, and country for the love of a man”.
Maureen enjoyed baking Irish soda bread, cooking (boiled dinners were a family favorite), her flower gardens, taking walks, sharing stories of her life in Ireland with her parents & siblings, and sharing about her education back in Ireland. She was quick-witted and her blue eyes sparkled when she laughed. Maureen adored babysitting her grandchildren, singing to them, and having a quick dance around the kitchen floor to lighten any mood.
She loved her cottage up north and having large family gatherings. She adored Patrick and the life they shared set an example to her children. She was a woman of deep faith. This faith sustained her throughout her entire life. “Keep the faith”, she would say “it is your fortune”.
Her legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for generations to come. ☘️️
A private family service will be held.
A memorial service for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorial contributions are appreciated to Irish Pallottine Fathers and Father Solanus Casey.
