Family Tribute

Larry Edward Strawser, 65, died peacefully at home in Monroe, Mich., on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020, after a short illness. He was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1955.

The son of Walter Emerson and Gladys Mary (Morgan) Strawser, Mr. Strawser grew up in Carleton, Mich. He attended Airport High School and worked for 30 years at Ford Motor Co., first at Auto Alliance in Flat Rock and then at Ford Plant Rawsonville in Ypsilanti.

He worked hard, but working wasn’t his priority. He loved to travel the open roads, go camping, collect, fix, ride and maintain motorcycles, including his beloved Ducati, BMW, Triumphs and Nortons. He raced a Suzuki 750 for a time at Grattan Raceway and loved every minute of it.

He was restless and full of energy, always had a project, was never idle.

He loved living in the country, listening to his favorite bands and artists, going to concerts, reading, spending time outdoors.

But most of all he loved his family. People say he was quiet, but he said what mattered. He was never shy about telling his family he loved them. And he showed it. He pushed kids on swings, and carried them on his shoulders. Taught them to ride bikes. He put small kids on top of big refrigerators and tracked every growth spurt on the wall. He put kids and grandkids on motorcycles before they could walk and taught them not to smudge the tank with fingerprints.

He was well loved and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Strawser is survived by his wife Ruby (Andrews) Strawser; children Christy (Michael McConnell) Strawser and Brian (Kelly) Strawser; step-daughter Natalie (Chris) Samp; brothers Dennis (Shannon) Strawser and Kenneth (Joan) Strawser; grandchildren Greyson Strawser, Marlowe, Harrison, Larkin and Ansel Samp; and numerous nieces and nephews.
