Obituary of Lyle E. Smith
December 10, 1945 - April 22, 2020
Lyle E. Smith, 74, passed away on Wednesday April 22, 2020 after a year-long battle with leukemia. He was born December 10, 1945 in Cass City, Michigan.
After graduation from High School Lyle served in the US Navy at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia until his honorable discharge with a National Defense Service Medal. Lyle met and married Emily (Swain) and moved to the Detroit, Michigan area in 1972. Lyle was co-owner of Package Express, an air freight pick- up and delivery service until 1987 when he moved to Houghton Lake, Michigan. While in Houghton Lake Lyle owned a dry-cleaners before working at Walmart up until his retirement when he enjoyed hunting and fishing with close friends.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Harland, Winona (Weaver) Smith, Minnie (Kundinger) Smith, his brothers Ken (Joanne), Jim (Dee), sisters Arlene Metzger (Joe), Joyce Mill (Gene), Emily Smith, and loving partner Judy Parker.
Lyle is survived by his son Richard (Elizabeth), grandchildren Zachary and Kelly, brothers Norm (Millie), Dean (Kay), several nieces and nephews. Lyle will also be dearly missed by Judy’s children Justin and Jenny, several close neighbors and friends.
Memorial planned for a future date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Memorials can be made to the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan
Cremation will take place at The On~Site Crematory located within Molnar Funeral Homes - Brownstown Chapel.
