Obituary of Argeline L. Porter

August 7, 1936 – April 18, 2020

Argeline L. Porter. Age 83 of Taylor.

On Saturday, April 18, 2020, Argeline Laconia Porter, loving mother of five children made her transition at the age of 83.

Argeline Laconia Forbes was born August 7, 1936, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Ralph and Willa Forbes, who proceeded her in death. She was the first of six children born to this union. Ralph (Sonny Boy) Forbes, Carlton Forbes, Gregory Forbes all preceded her in death. She is survived by brother, Milton (Mickey) Forbes and sister, Brenda Collins. 

In her early years, Argeline attended Inkster Public School and later attended St. Benedict Boarding School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she obtained her high school diploma. After graduation, she attended Cleary University in Ypsilanti, Michigan where she met the love of her life, Robert Porter, to whom she stayed married to for 62 years until his death, this past January. She was employed by General Motors and remained there for 24 years until retirement. She loved to travel, decorate, and cook. 

Robert L. Porter and Argeline L. Forbes were joined in marriage on August 31, 1957. Through their union, five children were born, Robert Junior “Poochie” Porter, Michael Porter, Debra Porter, Cheryl (Preston) Wilson, and Sandra (Ricardo) Patterson.

Robert and Argeline attended Holy Family Catholic Church and later Mother Porter joined the International Gospel Center in Ecorse, Michigan, where the late Apostle Charles O. Miles was the pastor and currently served under Pastor Marvin Miles. Mother Porter was a faithful member of the International Gospel Center. She served on the Mother’s Board, Prison Ministry, Prayer Warriors, Evangelistic Team, and Pastoral Choir. She was a giving person and was always trying to bless someone. She was very strong in her faith and was diligent in telling others about God.

She had the opportunity throughout her life to travel around the world.  Some of the places where she visited were Jerusalem, Italy, Mexico, Bahamas, Amsterdam, Hawaii, and many other places.

She leaves to cherish her memories five children, six grandchildren- Aleah “Le-Le”, Anthony, Melvin, Ricardo ll ‘Cody”, Paige, and Jalen; four great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association.
