FAMILY TRIBUTE
Edith was born February 2nd, 1933 in Tampa, Florida, shortly after her twin sister Elva, to parents Florence and Ernest. Edith had a happy childhood primarily spent in Omaha, Nebraska alongside her brother Dick and sisters Barbara, Elva, and Sylvia. She met the love of her life, Paul (JR) Michetti, during a blind date on April Fool’s Day. Just 6 weeks after meeting, they were engaged, and married in September of 1954 in Omaha. This was one month before Paul was discharged from the Air Force. Shortly after, Edith left her family and moved to Michigan with her new husband and started a family of her own. A family that would joyfully consume the next 60 years of her life.
Edith and Paul had 6 children; Bobbie, Jackie, Donna, Jimmie, Peter, and Georgie. She was a strong-willed woman with a quick wit. She commanded respect as the mother of the family. While Paul spent the work weeks across the US for his job, Edith held the family together; managing the schedules of all 6 active children doing everything from tying skates in the locker room to managing the home’s finances. Paul retired in 1986 and the pair spent the winters among friends at Tropical Breeze Estates in Boynton Beach, Florida. Their home in Florida became a warm-weather extension of their home in Michigan. They welcomed the family during holidays and breaks from school. Edith leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
This love manifested itself in a variety of ways from making many of their Halloween costumes every year, to famously replying “Weenie Gravy” whenever someone asked what was for dinner. In 2003 her beloved JR was diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Edith took care of him until the end in 2006. This was one of the greatest examples of the love that they shared. Edith prepared his food and clothes, reminded him what he liked and didn’t like, completed his sentences, and expressed the feelings and memories that he couldn’t always convey. Many people did not even know JR was sick, due to the incredible care that Edith provided. Edith and Paul moved back to Michigan temporarily in 2005 when a hurricane destroyed their Florida residence. Upon Paul’s death in February 2006, Edith rebuilt their Florida residence, a beautiful place that she lived in until her health started to falter in 2013. Edith was able to spend 2013-2018 in Michigan where all were able to share in her love until death. She loved being here surrounded by her large family.
Edith will be remembered as living her life for her family. She will be missed dearly.
