Shirley Ann Steinke.  Age 81 of Brownstown.

Beloved wife of the late Raymond J. Steinke.  Loving mother of Terri Steinke.  Dear sister of Charles R. Purcell, John P. (Ruth) Purcell and Mary W. (David) Johnson

Shirley Ann Steinke

Shirley graduated from Melvindale High School where she played on the softball team.

She had different places of employment.  When she and Ray were married she started working for the railroad in the offices.

When she and Ray married, their favorite past time was dancing and listening to jazz.  They loved going down to the Detroit Jazz Festival.  They danced up until it was too difficult for Ray with his dementia.

After moving to Waterford, she started with Cranbrook Institute working in their offices.  She enjoyed working for the school.  From there, she went to work for Miller Canfield Paddock and Stone Law Firm in the computer department where she eventually retired from.

She and Ray enjoyed the water.  For many years, vacations were taken at Wompler's Lake.  Terri, Mary, Kathy, and the Whitty twins learned to sky on that lake.  Once we all learned to ski, all of us got up at the same time and dropped one ski.

When they moved to Waterford, they bought a house on Otter Lake.  Summer days were spent skiing and then dropping anchor by the beach to swim.  They had music on the lake and they would take the boat out to listen and then go to their boat club for a fish fry.

They had a condo in Pompano Beach, Florida.  Bright sunny days were spent laying on the beach wondering how they got so lucky.

Paris was the highlight of their vacations.  They went twice and probably would have gone back many times.  Paris is synonymous with love and that was a perfect place for two people who adored each other.  Their favorite song was "Our Love Is Here To Stay".  And, it did.  After Ray passed away in October 2016, life was not the same for her.  Although she was active in her community and with her friend, Sally, she missed Ray enormously. 

She had a big heart and helped family in their time of need.  She made sure family, nieces and nephews had Christmas and birthday gifts otherwise they would have done without.  She opened her home to her 12 year old sister. Everyone thought this was for a short period, but ended up being until she graduated from high school. 

She would have liked to be remembered for her faith and love.
